We got em!

Well, it worked! We got our Disney vouchers for the Give a Day- Get a Day program! If you remember, we volunteered at a horse rescue place a little while back. We still needed to give two more hours of volunteer time. So, that we did. The first time we dug rocks out of a section that they wanted to turn into a grassy area for picnic tables. The second time around we cleaned up after horses. Now, as you sit there laughing, remember that this place was very overwhelmed with volunteers. They had to come up with any job that they could to keep the volunteers busy. So really, cleaning up after the horses wasn't bad at all because it had been done earlier in the day by other volunteers. It took us about 5 minutes to clean up all the stalls and it didn't even stink. Too bad our job didn't end there...
The owner wanted us to clean out the mud in one of the outdoor stalls. It had rained the day before and she wanted us to scrape out the mud that was about 3'' thick. That didn't sound too bad. We all marched over to the stall with our work gloves on, shovels in hand and pushing a couple of wheelbarrows. When we get to the stall we realized it was a used stall and we were going to be scooping up more than mud. After praying that this job wouldn't make me gag and that the kids would not miss the wheelbarrow and toss the contents on the shovel onto another person ( me!), we started the job. It was so exhausting! Patrick did most of the wheelbarrow emptying. He probably emptied 20 wheelbarrows of mud/poop. And where did he empty the wheelbarrows? Well, not to a place close to the stalls. We were in the front of the property and the dumping section was in the back of the property. We all decided that digging up rocks and boulders was the better job. We did actually have fun working together and the kids got to experience the animals. There was a horse that knew how to open the gate. He was so cute to watch. There were also brother and sister horses that were double trouble. Not only were they trouble but escape artist too! Patrick was taking a wheelbarrow out of the gate when they pushed their way through and started running all over the property. Patrick almost got knocked down and the full wheelbarrow got knocked over. We didn't get into trouble but the horses did. They got locked up in separate stalls for a horsey time out.

We are hoping to use our vouchers in the fall when the weather cools down a bit. Then we can look back and laugh about cleaning up after horses as we sip our frozen lemonades waiting to ride Space Mountain.

I think October is the best time to go. The crowds are low and the weather is PERFECT! I would like to talk my hubby into a little jaunt over there in the fall. What a great project you all did. Hope you all have a blast!
