Today the kids and I "boooed" a few neighbors. I have never heared of booing until recently and decided it could be a fun tradition. I decided to fill "Witches pots" with goodies instead of a pumpkin because the opening in the pot was wider and easier to fill. We don't usually promote the scary side of Halloween so I booed people that we knew celebrated Halloween and wouldn't be offended by the witches pot. We filled our pots with popcorn balls, Halloween oreos, candy and Halloween pencils. I bought the pencils because I saw some cute magnetic Halloween notepads at Target (dollar section- love it). Well, when putting are "Scare packages" together today, I realized I never went back to buy the notepads. Oh well, next year. We boooed five neighbors since our neighborhood has never done this, hoping at least a couple would participate. The kids picked five neighborhood friends and off we went. The kids thought it was fun to "ding-dong ditch" their friends. One friend saw Courtney running away from their house. Bummer. Below are directions for "Booing". Maybe this is something you could do in your neighborhood?
What's a Booing?
Booing or a Boo-Gram is a mysterious note, left on neighbor's doors in the middle of the day. The note is usually a poem of sorts, and a large "Boo!" decoration for their front door. The decoration serves as a means of communicating to other neighbors that this house has already been "hit". By Halloween, it is not uncommon to see Boo-Grams lining up and down the street on all the doors in some neighborhoods!Accompanying the Boo-Gram is a collection of goodies, determined by the giver. The goodies may vary from small Halloween treats, to kid's toys. The magic of these Boo-Grams is the reciprocation of this gift, as it is expected that when you are "Booed", you must "Boo" 2 other neighbors as well (after all, if you don't like your "Boo" gift, you can always re-gift to another neighbor!).Adventurous types "Boo" their neighbors in the broad daylight or early evening hours, as it increases the possibility of getting caught... those familiar with the famous "ding-dong ditch" prank of their childhood years will be happy to know that this tradition lives on, though the recipient gets a fun gift in the process. Many neighborhoods start in early October; however the common time to start seeing "Boo-Grams" is a couple of weeks before Halloween. However don't wait for someone to "Boo" you - start the tradition in your neighborhood... you'll be surprised how quickly the excitement spreads around the neighborhood!

Cute pic of the kids. 2:34 AM... do you sleep? We have done the boo here, just waiting for it to come back our way. Fun stuff! Funny story... Last year we were Boo'd 3 times. On the third run Justin was like "no really I am fine, you and Kate can do it." So Kate and I head out and do it to a boy from her class a couple of doors down. She runs upto the door, comes running back and says "hurry mom, he is at the door!" I start to take off, trip, and fall." So we were caught! Be careful out there...
