That includes summer. Our summers are short here in Phoenix (according to the school calendar NOT the weather) but packed with many activities. Below you will see a few things the kids did as summer began to wind down.
The above picture shows Courtney and a couple freshmen friends during Freshman initiation. The girls were "kidnapped" by a couple of upper classmen (from church). This didn't go over too well with Connor who thought she was really being kidnapped. It really wasn't scary just loud. The girls were taken to a mall where they had to parade around wearing costumes they were given. This wasn't Courtney's favorite part. They then went to dinner in costume. After dinner they made plans to t.p their youth pastor's house but the joke was on the freshmen because their youth pastor was waiting for them on his roof with a hose. He sprayed the girls as they were busy throwing toilet paper all over his house. That wasn't the end of it....next came the flour bombs. Wet toilet paper and wet flour on wet bodies. This wasn't Courtney's favorite part either. The night ended with a sleepover at one of the upper classmen's house but no pranks were pulled at the sleep over. As much as Courtney didn't like the initiation, she sure has had fun planning her sister's freshman initiation. We'll have to wait three years to see what happens.

Cassie is also starting 6th grade with new pink eye glasses.
Connor has really favored baseball this summer. He didn't play on a team but he and cousin Caleb played everytime they were together. Grandma Sharon even bought them matching Diamondback outfits. Connor will play Little League this fall. He's pretty excited. He would like to play catcher or pitcher he says.
Courtney was in a friend's Quinceanera this summer.
The Quinceañera or Quince Años (sometimes represented XV Años, meaning "fifteen years") is a young woman's celebration of her fifteenth birthday, which is celebrated in a unique and different way from her other birthdays. In some countries, such as Puerto Rico or Peru, the word Quinceañero is used instead of Quinceañera when referring to the celebration.
She learned three dances and the "quince court" performed them for the guest at the party. She was a little nervouse about this but did very well.
Swim and dive team have ended for the summer. It was fun watching Cassie and Connor at their meets. Grandma Donna was a trooper. She was at almost all the meets, no matter the temperature or humidity level! Thanks Grandma!
Both kids worked hard again this year. Cassie didn't end the year like she wanted but mom and dad are proud of her acomplishments. Cassie swims hard but she is also too hard on herself if she doesn't win.
Connor ended the year with a gold medal. He learned an important lesson this year when he got his first second place ribbon early in the summer. "It's not all about the ribbons" he says. I'm not sure he truley believes that. I think it made him feel good at the moment. But he is right. It's not all about the ribbons for mom and dad. It's about doing your best and not giving up!

Both girls were also able to go to a camp in California called Forest Home. It's a week long camp and it is a ton of fun. This was Courtney's second year and Cassies first. At camp Courtney and her friends had a run-in with a racoon (or as Courtney would tell you, a small bear). It's always fun to hear their camp stories when they get home. Cassie really enjoyed the jr high speaker at camp. She also made a couple new friends. Both girls want to go back next year. They have made camp sound so fun that Connor can't wait till he is old enough to go!
Courtney went on a Missions trip to Mexico again this year. She had a blast. She raised the funds to go plus had enough donations to help another teen go and to also help buy extra supplies needed to fix up churches and homes in Mexico. This trip was such an experience for Courtney. She came home with an appreciation for the things she has and also a sense of pride for being able to make a difference in the lives of others. Many of you reading this supported Courtney on this trip financially and prayerfully. Thank you for that. This was a great learning experience for her.
